Ah, the food truck craze. Perhaps not as big as cupcakes or froyo, but DC is certainly home to quite a few food trucks that patrol the streets looking to serve both the office lunch crowd, and the late night drunkards. One of the first food trucks was the Fojol Brothers of Merlindia, a group of presumably non-South Asians serving Indian cuisine. Dressed in fake mustaches and always bringing a bit of the theatrics with them, like all food trucks they announce their presence via Twitter and dole out food for an hour or two before moving on.
Food is served with basmati rice, and you can either get a one dish, two, or three of usually four offerings on that day. I got the Chicken Curry and the Eggplant, and both were pleasantly good considering the came from the back of a truck. Having had at least one South Asian roommate for the last six years, I can say it wasn't far off from being authentic, and was definitely a nice lunch for the middle of the workday.
There was a very ambiguous tweet about the future of the Fojol Bros, but hopefully they'll still be around DC. Follow them (@FojolBros) to see where they are on a day-to-day basis.
