Taqueria Habanero

Plaudits: None
Neighborhood: Petworth

The Setup

It started out as a mistake actually. Official Co-Writer/Wife of DCWD Texas really wanted pupusas, and the neon sign beckoned from across the street - let's put aside for a sec the twin facts that a) it's named a taqueria for a reason, and b) there's a pupuseria literally on the side of the street that we were already on. But once we were already seated, the call of tacos got us.

The Vibe

Exactly what you expect from a Petworth-based storefront serving Latin American food. Simple, stark, spartan. Friendly though.

The Food

There's no need to drag this out. Here's what you need to know: Tacos: delicious. You can't go wring anyway you slice it, from mushrooms to cactus to fish to al pastor. And we know, we tried them all. You can taste the homemade in the tortillas.

If tacos aren't your jam, the sopes or memela is a fun alternative. Like a lightyears superior version of Taco Bell's Mexican pizza. Same size as a taco, big heart.

Ordered three, went back for more.

The Verdict

Can't wait to go back.
